76th ICOLD Annual Meeting

The 76th ICOLD Annual Meeting, held in Sofia, Bulgaria for the first time, will take place on June 2-6, 2008.

The ICOLD Symposium will focus on Operation, Rehabilitation and Upgrading of Dams. Themes chosen include:

  • Experience in dam operation: Case histories
  • Problems in dam operation (floods, earthquake, foundation, seepage, internal erosion, ageing, deterioration of materials, etc.)
  • The role of dams in water resources and hydropower management for sustainable development
  • The role of dams in flood mitigation
  • Monitoring of dams
  • New trends and technologies in dam surveillance and monitoring
  • Safety analysis
  • Rehabilitation of dams
  • Up-grading of dams. New safety requirements (floods, earthquakes, development of science and technology, etc.)
  • Adapting operating procedures of existing dams to meet new social, economic and environmental requirements

A technical exhibition will parallel the ICOLD meeting to demonstrate the achievements and innovations in the field of dam technology and construction. The ICOLD exhibition is designated for experts in the field of dam design and construction, and the producers of basic and auxiliary electrical and mechanical equipment. The ICOLD exhibition will take place in the Congress Center exhibition area.
