Walter Nold We are sad to report the death of our good friend Walter Nold. Walter accomplished many things during the 88 years he was among us. He will be remembered for his kindness and good humor and for his unbridled enthusiasm when talking about his many inventions. Chief among these were the Seismitron, a sensor for detecting the microseisms emitted by rock under stress, the Aquaducer, a means of measuring settlements of the ground below the foundations of structures, and the DeAerator, an apparatus for the rapid degassing of liquids without the need for boiling. The DeAerator has found applications in many fields besides the geotechnical, and we are pleased to announce that, with the consent of Walter and his wife Marjorie, we will be taking over the manufacture of this outstanding piece of equipment. Details of the DeAerator can be found in the new Model 2100 Nold DeAerator data sheet. |

The
New Model 1610 Geokon / Ealey Geokon is pleased to announce that henceforth it will be replacing the Model 1600 Tape Extensometer with the Model 1610 Geokon/Ealey Tape Extensometer. The older model has seen good service, and hundreds of them have been produced over the years. The new model has several advantages over the old model (Model 1600) – the readout is electronic and digital; the tape tensioning method is much more user friendly; and the tape is stainless steel. We will continue to service the older Model 1600. |
