Product Data Sheets

Geokon publishes product data sheets containing technical specifications. The accuracy of these specifications is supported by tests performed in-house, and, in a few instances, by independent testing houses. All the in-house tests use standards, with accuracies traceable back to NIST, (National Institute for Standards and Technology). These tests are supported and confirmed by years of experience in a variety of applications.

Product data sheets are updated at regular intervals and technical specifications are revised as necessary to reflect any change in performance capabilities. We regard it as our duty to ensure that the specifications appearing on data sheets are kept up to date and conform to reality.

A certain competitor of ours (Applied Geomechanics Inc.), specializing in tiltmeters, has, for the last three years, been pleased to publish on their web site data comparing the performance of the AGI tiltmeter with the one made by Geokon, In particular it has been their pleasure to show the thermal drift of the Geokon vibrating wire tiltmeter to be 10.8 arc seconds /°C.

This datum appears to have been taken from a very old Geokon publication. The Geokon vibrating wire tiltmeter/inclinometer product data sheet, first published in 1999, shows the thermal drift to be +/- 4 arc seconds /°C. Moreover, recent tests, performed by a reputable independent body, have shown the Geokon vibrating wire tiltmeter to be even better than this and to have an outstanding thermal drift characteristic of only 1 arc second /°C.

Since AGI has ignored repeated requests to make the necessary corrections to its web site – surely a simple matter – the correction is published here.

Douglas Belshaw

Geokon wishes to express our sorrow in regard to the death of our colleague Douglas Belshaw, who passed away on April 30, 2003. Doug was President of Solinst Canada Ltd. and a valued member of our industry.

To All Geokon Customers

In order to provide faster and more efficient service to our valued customers and to avoid working on contaminated equipment thus insuring the health and safety of our employees, Geokon, Inc. would like to announce a policy change affecting the way we accept returned goods. All items returned must have an officially issued Return Authorization (RA) number that can only be acquired by contacting Geokon directly. We now ask our customers to answer basic questions regarding the nature of the return. Geokon will not accept nor work on returns that are lacking Return Authorization numbers or unsigned Health and Safety Clearance forms. The revised RA process is as follows:

Return Authorization Process:

1. Contact Geokon, Inc. via one of the following:

2. Geokon will ask you the necessary questions and fill out the Return Authorization form for you.

3. The Health and Safety Clearance portion of the form will be faxed to the customer. The customer is required to sign the form.

4. The Health and Safety Clearance form is returned to Geokon via fax and must be placed inside the package along with the returned goods.

5. The customer must assume responsibility for printing the assigned Return Authorization number clearly on the outside of the package.
