    GEOKON is a manufacturer of sensors and instrumentation used in civil, mining and structural engineering projects throughout the world.

    We are currently seeking a Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist, who at the direction of the Human Resource Manager, will contribute to the success of GEOKON by managing the overall health, safety and environmental program. This is a full-time position.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    1. Planning and Scheduling
      • Acting as a liaison between management and external safety agencies
      • Conducting regular inspections to ensure all products and activities are compliant with safety guidelines and regulations
      • Perform hazard assessments for manufacturing activities including the need for personal protective equipment (PPE) and process safety management (PSM)
      • Plans and coordinates industrial hygiene testing (air sampling, noise level testing) ensure within acceptable and compliant ranges
      • Inspects facility processes to detect existing or potential environmental, safety, and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative actions/measures where indicated and follows-up to ensure actions/measures have been implemented
    2. Safety and Execution
      • Compiles and presents statistics for internal use and external groups such as OSHA, etc.
      • Works with employees and supervisors to ensure machinery, tools, and equipment being used minimize risks to employee health and safety
      • Works closely with Human Resources to manage injury claims and return to work program
      • Leads incident/accident investigations to identify root cause and analyzes incident/accident data to determine corrective action and evaluate the effectiveness of accident prevention to prevent re-occurances
      • Initiates and follows the claims process with insurers to ensure a timely resolution of all open claims
      • Implement post-injury follow up procedures for employees
      • Lead improvement efforts related to all health and safety matters
      • Maintain documentation of the company’s safety procedures, accidents and related events
      • Writes reports detailing inspection processes
      • Suggests revisions to production methods and employee activity that does not meet health and safety codes • Orders safety gear and supply for the company
      • Runs emergency drills to gauge employee readiness
      • Manage responses for safety, medical and environmental emergencies and coordinates all facility response and evacuation programs, including the design and execution of annual drills and communication with management
      • Actively participates and acts as an informational resource for the company safety committee
      • Evaluates work stations and conducts an on-going Ergonomic Program to continually improve employee working conditions
    3. Training and Employee Development
      • Conducts safety orientation training for all new hires
      • Works closely with Human Resources and Management to provide all required safety training, including needed material and support
      • Maintain safety training schedules and documentation
      • Educate employees on safety standards, procedures, and expectations as well as safe machine and tool operation
      • Conduct or coordinates training for compliance for health and safety programs including hazard communications, safe working practices, PPE and approves all PPE purchased to ensure regulation compliance
    4. Standards and Procedures
      • Research and understand federal, state and local standards and regulations relating to safety issues within the manufacturing environment
      • Create and implement safety plans while ensuring that they are being followed and adhered to at all times
      • Annually reviews Company Safety Manual and revises as needed
      • Develops, implements, and maintains health and safety programs meeting or exceeding OSHA regulations
      • Reviews and recommends improvements in policies, procedures and equipment to prevent accidents and injuries
      • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
      • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
    5. Other Duties and Responsibilities
      • Perform related duties as assigned by Manager

    Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

    • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required / Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health preferred
    • Minimum of 5 or more years of experience is required

    Other Requirements:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
    • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
    • Excellent computer proficiency (Microsoft® Word™, Excel®, Outlook® and Teams® software, etc.)
    • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
    • Demonstrates familiarity with machinery, tools, and equipment
    • Understanding and demonstrated knowledge of federal, state and local safety requirements and regulations, including OSHA
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines
    • Interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective professional relationships with employees and management
    • Is detail oriented and exhibits strong organizational skills
    • Demonstrates the ability to remain calm and cool-headed in the event of an emergency
    • Must be authorized to work in the United States
