Technical Support & Repair Technician

  • GEOKON is a manufacturer of sensors and instrumentation used in civil, mining and structural engineering projects throughout the world.

    We are currently seeking a Technical Support & Repair Technician, who at the direction of the Technical Support Manager, will contribute to the success of GEOKON by providing exceptional technical support, both internally and externally, for the full breadth of product and software solutions offered by GEOKON, LLC. Act as a technical liaison between the customer, GEOKON sales staff and GEOKON Engineering. Create and deliver service and technical training for both internal and external audiences. Also provide Field Service as needed for installation, training, and troubleshooting. The Repair Technician evaluates/tests customer equipment. Repairs and calibrates customer owned equipment based on evaluation. Collaborates with other departments as required. Maintains accurate Service Reports and Shop Orders. This is a full- time position working Monday through Friday, with flexible 8 hours each day between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    1. Technical Support (Internal and External)
      • Troubleshoot and answer technical questions related to:
        • Geotechnical instrumentation
        • Data acquisition systems
        • Readout instruments
        • Software applications published by GEOKON
        • 3rd party software applications sold by GEOKON
      • Ensure a quick response time to problem resolution
      • Establish good working relationships with our customer base as well as with our internal customers
      • Promote a positive company image when speaking to customers and other GEOKON employees
    2. Software Support
      • Assist Customers with Device Management related to software and logger communication
      • Setup Vista Data Vision (VDV) for customers and provide support
      • Understand data logger programming and provide troubleshooting on programs
    3. Service and Technical Training (Internal and External)
      • Provide training for partners, end users and internal sales and service people as required
      • Assist and train other functional areas such as Production Assembly, Quality, Repair, etc., as required
    4. Field Service
      • Travel to customer required locations both internationally and domestically to assist with installation, training and troubleshooting as required
    5. Repair Work
      • Evaluate and repair customer equipment
      • Calibration of customer equipment
      • Prepare outgoing rental equipment
      • Evaluate customer equipment prior to sending to calibration department
      • Maintain electronic databases
    6. Other
      • Perform related duties as assigned by Supervisor

    Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

    • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required / Associates Degree or 2 years of education beyond high school in college or technical school in Electrical Engineering Technology or Computer Engineering Technology
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience required without additional schooling, 1-3 or more years of experience with additional schooling is required

    Preferred Experience:

    • Understands the tools of lean management, including systematic problem-solving through root cause analysis and statistical methods, design for manufacture and assembly, bills of materials structure, process plans, routings, and Value Stream Mapping
    • Presentation and project management skills

    Other Requirements:

    • Detail oriented
    • Ability to follow work instructions, blueprints, schematics, and verbal instructions
    • Soldering experience is required
    • Must be familiar with evaluation and repair processes, use of electronic test equipment and record keeping
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
    • Excellent computer proficiency (Microsoft® Word™, Excel®, Outlook®, PowerPoint®, Teams®, etc. software)
    • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
    • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignment to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
    • Must be authorized to work in the United States
