Faro de la Moncloa | Madrid, Spain

Faro de la Moncloa (the "Lighthouse of Madrid") is an eye-catching structure, over 90 m in height, gracing the skyline of Madrid. Faro de la Moncloa serves as a transmission tower with a viewing area and restaurant located near the top.

Over time, it became apparent that the tower was not truly vertical. As a precautionary measure, Ingenieria de Instrumentacion y Control S. A. (IIC), Geokon's long-time representative in Spain, proposed the installation of a Vibrating Wire Tiltmeter system for monitoring purposes. In early 2008, four Model 6350 VW Tiltmeters were attached in biaxial pairs to capture and quantify the oscillatory movement observed at the tower. Data is collected once per hour using the Model 8002-4-2 (LC-2x4) 4-Channel Datalogger, a recent addition to the Model 8002 LC-2 Series product family.

High-precision topographical survey techniques are also employed, and monitoring is expected to last 1-2 years.
